The Art of Italian Glassmaking

As Italian glassmakers go, Luigi Bormioli is relatively young (founded 1946), but our devotion to design esthetics and glass craftsmanship are rooted in Italian glassmaking methods that have flourished on the Venetian island of Murano since the Middle Ages. While Venice symbolizes glass artistry of the highest order, the lasting contribution of Murano glassmakers was the creation of a clear, brilliant glass called cristallo. In time, their once-secret processes spread across Italy and eventually to all of Europe.

In Italy, major glassmaking centers arose in Altare and in Parma, home of Luigi Bormioli. While our company embraces the glassmaking craft of earlier Italian masters, we are committed to applying modern technology to this ancient art to create a product of strength, crystalline clarity and affordability.
